it's hereditary

Did you know that craftiness is hereditary? I did. I come from very crafty stock. My granny is a master of creating plastic canvas masterpieces. Really. She is. And my mother. Well, I used to think my mother's craftiness was focused on making just about the cutest quilts, jammies and dresses I could imagine...but no. Her craftiness knows no bounds. I remember, when she was in college, she took a few classes where she had to do art projects. For one, she created an alphabet and for each letter she came up with a name and drew a picture of a kid, totally cute. And once, she made a little statue of a child reading a book. She's crafty.

Well, recently she was looking through a Pottery Barn catalog and came across this

She thought "I could do that!" And did it she has! I think her way is much, much cuter. So cute, in fact, I think I'll try to replicate it myself!

Way to go mom!

scrabble

Sister1 made me this charm. It's Junie B. Jones! Who, as an educator of small children, I adore!
You should read some Junie B. books. Though written for children, the books are hilarious!

sister1 used the K tile, as my name starts with K, just so happens, all 5 of my sisters are also K's!!, but I am the lucky number 5 K...and how much is a K tile in scarbble worth?!?! 5! Perfect!

hand stamped necklaces

I stumbled across Hip Mom Jewelry today and found these gems.

Am I cheesy or what? I'd love to own a personalized one of these!

and, I can think of no mom better than my own for this one. I actually giggled a bit when I saw it!

I found the Hip Mom site while perusing KevinandAmanda.com. Have you been there? They have tons of great handwriting fonts availble for free download. And you know me, I simply cannot resist a cute font!

Teacher gifts

My niece and nephew made these for their teachers. Can you guess who their mom is? Yep, that's right, sister1!

I think these look store bought! But, no!
The nicer chain really makes this look good! And nice bead choice D!

improvement

Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, I showed my sister and niece how to make the bottlecap necklaces.  Said sister made some of her own recently and has definitely improved upon what I showed her.

the top is more rounded than mine and she put the jump ring in before she poured so she didn't have to drill a hole.  it was messy at first, and required a second pouring, but it looks darn good!

she used bigger beads for some

and a ball chain
cute, right?

more bottle cap necklaces

I'm totally going craft happy over bottle cap necklaces! I made this one the other night:

And then we had a girl's night where we all made necklaces!
Tips for making these is: pour the epoxy on while the bottle caps are on plastic cups (like those big red ones people use at picnics). That way, after the epoxy is cured the epoxy and cap will pop right off the plastic. Also, use cute bottle caps! Izze pop has the cutest ones (I think :) and it's yummy to drink too!

Scrabble Necklaces

We had a craft night/girl's night tonight where we made more bottle cap necklaces!! It was a lot of fun and I took a lot of pictures (with someone else's camera!). While we were there Christina told us about scrabble tile charms for necklaces. They look really easy and cute and this website gives you the step-by-step directions on how to make them!! I feel a new project coming on!

bottle cap necklaces

Nicole showed me this webiste, and so I made this neckalce. It's a bottle cap, with beads and a charm, then epoxy over it. Very easy, and super duper cute! The hardest part is waiting 72 hours for the epoxy to cure!

Yesterday, Nicole and I made some more...when they're done too, I'll post pics!

necklaces

my friend nicole showed me how to make these.  it's EASY!!!

you need:

needle nose pliers, chain, individual round links, charms and if you want, you can use beads to add a little flair.  i make mine long enough to slip over my neck, if you want them shorter, you'll also need clasps.  because the chain is cheap they break easily... luckily, the chain is cheap.  it's also easy to fix.  i get everything at hobby lobby and michael's.  they have different selections of charms... so i always explore both!!
